Getting started
A checklist of what to have ready for your first psychiatric video visit
A simple checklist for your first psychiatric appointment: medication list, history, notes on symptoms, insurance details, and a private space with a working camera.

Your checklist
- A list of every medication you take, with doses, plus vitamins and over-the-counter products
- Psychiatric medications you have tried before, roughly when, and how each one went
- A few notes on your main symptoms: when they started, what makes them better or worse
- Major medical conditions and the names of your other providers
- Your insurance details if you are booking through Alma or Headway
- A private, quiet space and a phone, tablet, or computer with a working camera and microphone
Why it helps
More time for what matters
When the facts are organized, more of the visit goes to understanding you rather than reconstructing dates.
Safer prescribing
A complete medication list is the single most useful thing you can bring. It is what makes any prescription safe.
Nothing gets forgotten
Nerves make people forget things. Notes mean the important details make it into the conversation.
Common questions
What if I do not have records from previous providers?
That is fine. Bring what you know and be honest about gaps. Records can be requested later if they would help.
Can a family member or support person join?
Yes, if you want them there for part or all of the visit. Just let Jessica know at the start. For teens under 18, a parent or guardian is involved.
Do I need a photo ID?
It is a good idea to have one nearby in case your identity needs to be confirmed at the first visit.
What should I have ready for the video itself?
A quiet private room, headphones if others are nearby, a charged device, and a stable internet connection. Join a few minutes early.
