Frequently Asked Questions About Telehealth Psychiatric Care
Straight answers about video visits, medication, cost, and what a psychiatric nurse practitioner does.

About the practice
Telehealth visits, and what a psychiatric nurse practitioner does.
Do you offer virtual appointments only?
Yes, all sessions are conducted securely through telehealth, allowing you to receive care from the comfort and privacy of your home.
What does a psychiatric nurse practitioner (Psych NP) do?
A Psych NP is an advanced practice nurse who assesses, diagnoses, and treats mental health conditions. Treatment may include medication management, therapy, education, and lifestyle support.
Is a psychiatric NP a psychiatrist?
No. Jessica is a board-certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (an APRN), not a physician, and is licensed in Connecticut to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and prescribe.
Do you provide therapy, medication management, or both?
Many Psych NPs offer medication management and brief therapeutic interventions. I will provide supportive therapy during our sessions and may refer you to a therapist if needed.
Medication
How medication decisions are made, and your choices.
Will you prescribe controlled substances?
Possibly. Prescribing is based on a careful assessment, diagnosis, safety considerations, and state regulations.
How do you decide which medication is right for me?
Decisions are based on your symptoms, history, past medication responses, side-effect sensitivity, lifestyle, and preferences.
What if I don't want to take medication?
That's okay. Medication is optional. We can explore therapy, lifestyle changes, or other non-medication approaches.
