Signs to look for

The specific signs that it is time for a psychiatric evaluation

The symptoms that usually mean it is time for a psychiatric evaluation, and who provides one. JRose Wellness offers that evaluation by secure video across Connecticut.

Signs worth acting on

  • Low mood, worry, or irritability that has lasted weeks, not days
  • Sleep, appetite, or energy that has changed enough to affect your day
  • Trouble concentrating or getting through routines you used to manage
  • Mood swings, racing thoughts, or periods of unusually high energy
  • Using alcohol or other substances to get through the day
  • Thoughts of harming yourself. If this is happening now, call or text 988 or call 911.

What an evaluation gives you

A name for what is happening

Many conditions overlap. An evaluation sorts out what is actually going on so the plan fits.

Options, not pressure

Medication is one tool among several. You hear the choices and decide together with your prescriber.

A psychiatric nurse practitioner can provide it

A board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and prescribes. That is who you see at JRose Wellness.

Common questions

Do I have to see a psychiatrist, or can a nurse practitioner do the evaluation?

In Connecticut, a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner provides the same outpatient evaluation and medication management a psychiatrist would. Jessica Logel, MSN, PMHNP-BC, is licensed in Connecticut to evaluate, diagnose, treat, and prescribe.

How long should I wait before reaching out?

If symptoms have lasted more than a couple of weeks, or they are affecting work, school, or relationships, that is reason enough. You do not need to be in crisis.

What if my symptoms come and go?

Patterns matter. Symptoms that return, or that cycle between highs and lows, are worth describing to a psychiatric provider even if today is a good day.

Is it normal to be nervous about a first visit?

Yes. The evaluation is a conversation about what you are experiencing, not a test. Jessica moves at a pace that feels comfortable.
